Christmas Update

Posted by admin on February 21, 2013

If my calculations are correct, 15% of the year has already passed, which makes Christmas 2013 closer than it may seem.  I’ve been waiting quite awhile to post this progress report because, well, I didn’t have any progress to report.  A huge part of that is my fault.  As a reminder, these are the things that can go in my Christmas account:

  • VISA cashback (won’t get until November)
  • Amazon gift cards from law school rewards program
  • Textbooks sold
  • Pinecone cheques
  • Government Cheques

I didn’t sell any of my old textbooks in January because I was just so overwhelmed with the start of the new semester.  Which isn’t the end of the world, but it didn’t start the year off with the bang that I wanted.  I did get quite a few cheques from Pinecone (certainly lots more than usual), but each one is only $5, so they don’t exactly add up quickly.  Then I got a cheque from the government for $25 and I was stuck at $80 for several weeks.

I don’t separate out my government cheques, or even usually look at what they are for.  Some are a GST/HST credit, some an energy credit.  All I know is that I get them automatically for filing my tax return, and that I am grateful for each one I get.

This week I got two government cheques, for a total of $150, bringing my grand total to $230.  So now all of a sudden, with very little effort on my part, I am more than a third of the way to my $600 goal.

I’ll send another update when I have some more progress to report.  Have you started saving for Christmas 2013 yet?

My savings for Christmas? They haven’t really started to be honest. It’s one of the first things I’ll be tackling when I get to it, since I’ll be approaching my goals the same way I approached debt; start with the smallest, most easy to attain, and move from there. My Chase rewards will also be part of the Christmas savings, though that amount can vary from $20 to over $100 as I got this past year.

That’s awesome so far!! Wow! :) We have started saving for Christmas… we tend to spend a good amount, so we’ve been socking away $50/week. We have a few hundred saved up so far I think… not really sure, hubby tracks that! lol!
